A Day of Protests

August 13th, 2020 - Protesting over 50 deaths due to CDCR's negligence

On the afternoon of August 13th, 2020, families of the incarcerated stood in 100 degree weather in front of the capital building to protest and demand the immediate release of our loved ones before another incarcerated person dies under CDCR’s watch. The people inside those walls are are loved ones – our spouses, our children, our parents, our families.  We our their voices and we will not stop until we are heard, until they are free.

The capital was just the start of the day. We caravanned to CDCR headquarters in downtown Sacramento and made lots of news. Sometimes the only way the voices of the incarcerated are heard are through the mouths of others.  We must speak up for those that have no voice.

“In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends”

Protest at the house of CRCR Secretary Ralph Diaz

On the night of August 13th, 2020, families of the incarcerated and families of the incarcerated that has lost their lives to Covid gathered in front of Ralph Diaz’s home and took vigil in remembrance of lives lost.  Prison has become a first response reaction to anything and everything. Prison is used to separate, denigrate and isolate.  They have always gotten away with murder but have gone to great lengths to hide it.  This death by indifference is right in plain sight and as a Federal Judge stated – The Warden and CDCR – have acted with deliberate indifference and relief is warranted.
Unfortunately, for some- relief never came and now it’s much too late.
